Cantina Sava Primitivo – Ritardatario from Puglia, Italy. Round and intense red wine from Puglia based on 100% Primitivo grape with a barrel aging of at least 10 months. Lots of aromas of red fruits such as cherries and blackberries. Delicious red wine with a warm and soft aftertaste. Primitivo is a fashionable grape from the Puglia wine region (Italy). DNA research shows that primitivo is the same grape as the Californian zinfandel, but that says nothing about how the grape came to Italy. The grape appears to have been introduced first to California and then to Italy. Primitivo led a hidden existence in Puglia for many years, where he gave color and strength to blends and had a few DOCs of his own; outside Italy the primitivo was rare. The popularity of zinfandel has changed that and now primitivo is popping up everywhere, including in Australia.
