Adria Vini Primitivo IGT – Puglia

Adria Vini Primitivo IGT – Pugliai from Venice, Italy. Made from the local Primitivo grape that grows on the Salento peninsula in the Puglia region. On the palate it is generous with a nice concentration of ripe plums, blackcurrants and hints of dried figs and dark chocolate.

Primitivo is a fashionable grape from the Puglia wine region (Italy). DNA research shows that primitivo is the same grape as the Californian zinfandel, but that says nothing about how the grape came to Italy. The grape appears to have been introduced first to California and then to Italy. Primitivo led a hidden existence in Puglia for many years, where he gave color and strength to blends and had a few DOCs of his own; outside Italy the primitivo was rare. The popularity of zinfandel has changed that and now primitivo is popping up everywhere, including in Australia.
