Alain Grignon Le Champ du Begut Carignan by Alain Grignon from Languedoc, France. Carignan grapes produce a deep red wine with a fruity yet firm body. This wine is made from 40 year old vines, the small yields provide an intense palette of flavors. It is mainly the intense black fruits, like blackberries and blueberries, that set the tone with a vanilla touch from the light wood aging. A medium-length clean finish makes this wine very balanced and a wonderful value for money.

Carignan: a blue grape planted generously in southern France, North Africa and California. The grape produces quite powerful wines that are fruity in their young years. Nowhere does this grape give finer wines than in Roussillon. Carignan originates from Spain, where it is called cariñena after the town of the same name where the grape originally comes from. Carignan wines are usually dark coloured and coarse in character. They contain relatively high levels of tannin and acidity. Thanks to modern methods of vinification such as macération carbonique the wines become fuller, softer and fruitier.
