Bodegas Ontanon Ontanon Clarete from Rioja, Spain. The light pink Clarete is fresh and fruity and takes a walk among freshly picked flowers. Its structure is light and drinks very smoothly. This rosé is exceptional because “Clarete” is often kept by the farmer for his own use. During the Fiesta de la Vendimia, families go to the mountains where mushrooms are picked. Then they are sautéed with garlic and combined with a typical wine like this. Tempranillo: means ‘early’ and is a non-erect vine with large, irregularly shaped leaves and large bunches of thick grapes. It is very likely an indigenous Spanish grape variety. Its origins could lie in the Pyrenees, where wild vines of the Tempranillo were still found in the 80s. Is often found in the Spanish wine regions planted and is considered a very noble variety. This is partly because it is the most important grape in the quality areas Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Tempranillo produces dark wines with low acidity and alcohol content. Wood aging is good for wines that contain tempranillo and gives them an extra softness. It is a good base for red Rioja wines. Tempranillo is known in Penedés as ull de llebre and in La Mancha and Valdepeñas as cencibel. Macabeo: prefers a warm and dry climate (is susceptible to rot in a wet climate). Mainly grown in Northern Spain (where the grape is also called Viura). In warm regions the wines reach a higher alcohol content than in humid regions. Macabeo is round, fine and fruity in taste. Also used as a base for sparkling wines. In Rioja known as Viura and in France as Maccabeu.
