Boutinot Cuvée Jean Paul Blanc. Colombard, Ugni Blanc from Languedoc, France. Fresh, dry wine with notes of green apple and lively acidity.

Colombard, rich-bearing white grape variety of reasonable quality. The grape is a cross between gouais and chenin blanc, originating from the Charente region north of Bordeaux. In the past, the colombard (together with ugni blanc and folle blanche) was seen as the distilling grape par excellence. The colombard is the fruitiest of the 3 and contributes relatively less to the distillate because people have a strong preference for neutral base wines. Wines from Colombard are never top-level wines. The youthful freshness is their only, albeit meritorious, positive quality. In California the grape is called French Colombard and in South Africa Colombar. Ungi Blanc is the world’s largest producer of white wine. Gives a high acidity to the wine, has a very neutral character with a low alcohol content and quickly shows a tendency to oxidize.

Ungi blanc is used, among other things, in the small wine district of Pallet in Provence and is the only grape for the production of Cognac in the Charente. In Italy the grape is called trebbiano.
