Casa Carmela Monastrell Barrica. Magnum from D.O. Yecla, Spain. On the nose ripe red fruit aromas, sweet spices (licorice). It has very elegant and integrated wooden keys. The wine is balanced, fresh, with elegant soft tannins and good acidity. Monastrell: is a blue grape (better known by its French name mourvèdre) of reasonable quality from Spain, Yecla and the Levant. Delivers reliable harvests and appears to be resistant to the Phylloxera so feared by Vitis vinifera grapes. The wines from Monastrell are slightly more powerful, drier and firmer than those from Garnacha. Except in the south of Spain (Yecla and Jumilla), where this grape is mainly vinified unblended, Monastrell wines are blended with other varieties to produce balanced cuvées. MEET THE WINEMAKER
