Chateau La Jalgue Rouge Vitis Elévé en Futs de Chéne Sup.Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot from Bordeaux, France. Deep red wine with purple hues. A powerful nose of spice and red fruit. This Bordeaux still has lively tannins and together with the acids it makes a mouth-filling wine with a medium-long finish.
The wines are made from 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Fermentation takes place in cuves, after which the wine matures in French oak barrels for 12 months. Ideal with red meat dishes.

Cabernet Franc is a fairly productive variety. It is in fact the original Cabernet grape. The much more famous Cabernet Sauvignon is a descendant of Cabernet Franc. It probably originated in Bordeaux where it is one of the classic components of Bordeaux wines. In the 17th century it was taken to the Loire Valley where it was subsequently successfully planted. Cabernet Franc prefers chalky gravel, sand and clay soils and ripens about ten days earlier than Cabernet Sauvignon. It thrives very well in cooler soils. At its best, Cabernet Franc has an unmistakable and appetizing aroma of raspberries and pebbles washed in spring water and a refreshingly sharp scent of blackcurrant leaves. This aroma tickles the taste buds. Cabernet Franc is used successfully in Bordeaux where it is a major player, especially on the soils of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. Furthermore, it is also very successful in the Loire and more specifically in Chinon Saumur-Champigny and Bourgeuil. The grape is also used in the South of France, Italy, California, Australia, New Zealand, Chile and South Africa. It is often used to blend with Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most famous grape of all. It is therefore rightly called King Cab. Its flavors are also complex and are supported by firm tannins that give it a strong character. This exceptional cuvée is only made in the best wine years and is a combination of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Cabernet Sauvignon is best known in Bordeaux where, together with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it produces high-class wines. It needs a lot of heat to ripen, otherwise it becomes green and juicy with a taste of green pepper. Too much heat makes it soft and jammy, with a taste of blackcurrant. Cabernet Sauvignon produces very aromatic wines with scents of blackcurrant, vanilla, spices (pepper), tobacco, plum, cherry, toasted bread and cedar. The wines usually have a long shelf life, contain a lot of tannin and should in principle ripen in barriques. By applying modern vinification techniques, young wines can now also be drinkable quickly. In general, the wines have a high phenol content, they are purple (young) or dark red (old) and have a lot of power and structure. Cabernet Sauvignon can be found all over the world. Wherever someone wants to make a ‘serious’ wine, Cabernet Sauvignon is planted. Merlot one of the oldest Vitis vinifera varieties that ripens earlier than the Cabernet sauvignon and the Cabernet franc. The Merlot is important in Bordeaux, especially in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. The planting of Merlot has increased considerably in recent years. The grape is very popular worldwide and people have increasingly come to the conclusion that Merlot should be planted in a fairly cool vineyard. This grape gives dark, cool, soft, spicy and fruity wines. This Bordeaux still has lively tannins and together with the acids it makes a mouth-filling wine with a medium-long finish. The wines are made from 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.
