Gere Attila Portugieser

Portugieser is a blue grape of reasonable quality. The grape is mainly planted in the Palatinate wine region and along the Ahr (Germany). The grapes ripen very early in the season and produce a light, often quite weak red wine. The portugieser is often used to make Weiszherbst, a rosé-like, fruity wine. The Portugieser, which arrived in the Palatinate in 1860, has achieved its permanent place among the red wine varieties of almost 10% mainly because young people in particular love its uncomplicated properties (neutral taste, mild acidity, little bouquet). Yet one should not underestimate this immigrant from the east, who has nothing to do with Portugal. Many experts think that the Portuguese is of Austrian origin. In Austria the grape is called bluer portugieser, in France more and more portugais bleu, in Hungary and Romania kékoporto.

Gere Attila Portugieser from Villany, Hungary. A wine with vibrant red color with purple hues. Its aroma is defined by ripe cherries complemented by soft minerals. Its character is soft and, thanks to velvety tannins, this is a very smooth, fine wine.
