Zibibbo or Moscatellone is the Sicilian name for the less aromatic and less seductive Muscat or Alexandria. This classic grape variety was most likely introduced to Italy by the Arabs in the eighth century. It is remarkable that at the beginning of the twentieth century Zibibbo was almost exclusively found on the small island of Pantelleria (south of Sicily). In the past as well as today Zibibbo is used to make delicious sweet and full-bodied dessert wines that are undoubtedly among the best of their kind.
