Lyrarakis Karnarı Kotsifali

Lyrarakis Karnarı Kotsifali from Crete, Greece. A warm nose with hints of sweet red fruit combined with a firm dose of spiciness. The taste is very round and full with refined tannins and an intense persistent aftertaste.Smoked or dried meat, charcuterie and aged cheeses.

The Kotsifali grape produces a dry red wine, soft in color with strong aromas of flowers, dried black fruit and spices. A full, rich wine with a reasonably high alcohol content, soft acids and tannins. The wine can be described as the Cretan equivalent to Merlot. In a varietal wine it is characterized as a “typical Mediterranean wine”. For its characteristics, it is also widely used in blends with other red varieties, both Cretan and internationally known grape varieties. The Kotsifali grape can be considered the “True Soul of Crete”. Most Kotsifali wines are for direct consumption. Those with a higher extract, usually aged for several months in oak barrels, can evolve for another 5 to 8 years, resulting in a soft character wine with complex aromas.
