Marras Grenache Vineyard Selection Piekenierskloof, South Africa. Beautiful bright red color. Due to the short cold maceration of 3 days, this wine retains its light and fruity character of ripe cherries and strawberries. The maturation in used oak barrels for 10 months adds beautiful spicy layers to the velvety finish. The Grenache grape grows in warm and dry areas, such as southern France, Spain, South America and also California and Australia. This grape is also the most cultivated type of grape in the world for producing red. As already mentioned, the grape is called ‘Garnacha’ in Spanish. But you may also know it as ‘Cannonau’, which is what it is called in Sardinia. This grape is a real holidaymaker, and needs sun and hot stones to fully bake and ripen. The Grenache contains little tannin and is sensitive to oxidation, so it is better to drink it immediately instead of storing it. The grape has a thin skin and is therefore lighter in colour compared to other red wine varieties. The more grapes per bunch, the lighter the colour. The high sugar content is typical for this wine and also makes it stronger in alcohol content, but also sweet and firmer. Grenache wines can be recognised by a taste of white pepper, herbs and fruit. In terms of smell, you can smell almost the same ingredients: blackberries, pepper, cherries, berries and a slightly spicy smell.
