Loureiro: also called Loureira, is a very old, fragrant grape, often used for Vinho Verde. The grape seems made for the cooler regions around Braga and the coastal region. Loureiro means laurel and refers to the aromas of this wine grape. The taste is sometimes reminiscent of young Riesling. The yield is high and the wine is used neat or often in a blend with other grapes, such as arinto (also paderña) and trajadura (treixadura in Spain).
