Cinsaut has been grown for centuries in Languedoc, Roussillon, Provence and the southern Rhône. This grape’s reputation for producing large yields of poor to average quality is partly true. It can give high yields, but at low yields it can produce quality wines. Cinsaut is sensitive and likes dry, poor and rocky sandy and clay soils and is known to be drought and heat resistant. Wines from Cinsaut are often blended with varieties such as Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. This grape produces light, soft, fruity wines with a somewhat weak color. The slightly sour wine should not be stored for too long. The wines are very aromatic, especially when young, and smell of peach, raspberry and strawberry. Cinsaut is very suitable for making light rosé wines.
