Uggiano Chianti Riserva Prestige Black Label. Canaiolo and Sangiovese from Tuscany, Italy. Ripe and generous Chianti Riserva, rendered in ruby red with garnet reflections. Wonderful nose of ripe black cherries, wild berries and violets, sublimely complemented by a seductive hint of vanilla and some toasty oak. The wine was aged for up to 22 months in wood, with the first 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels. The wine was then allowed to rest in the bottle for another year. This results in a deliciously full and round wine with the sultry and complex flavors of ripe plums, black currants, cherries, Mediterranean spices and vanilla. With wonderfully melted tannins and an aftertaste that knows no stopping.

Canaiolo Nero is a typical Italian grape of reasonable quality. Traditionally common in Tuscany to serve as a supplement in the Chianti blend with Sangiovese as the main character. Canaiolo gives the Chiantis a little more fullness and softness. The grape has a less pronounced and softer character than the mammolo grape (meaning violets) also used in Chianti, which gives extra character and aroma to the blend. Nowadays, Canaiolo Nero is increasingly planted further south. The character of the wine from this grape is mild, full and modest. In the south of Italy it is mainly made into sweet wines.

Sangiovese, the most common ancient and very robust, but thinly membranous variety. Originally from Tuscany and from there spread throughout Italy. Sangiovese consisting of two qualitatively very different sub-varieties. The Sangiovese piccolo (the lesser) dominates and is the main variety in Chianti.
