Quinta De Pedra Escreta Branco Reserva – BIO. Cuvee from Douro, Portugal. Albarino 35%, Rabigato 30 %, Verdelho 30%, Viognier 5 %. Wonderful white wine from the Douro! With a blend of Viognier and 3 noble varieties from the North of Portugal (touriga nacional, Rabigato and Verdelho), 9 months in French oak barrels. This is a complex, elegant and rich white, with plenty of acidity and length. Pale straw color -, mineral -, citrus -, specially grapefruit, dry peach, a hint of asparagus and well integrated oak. Dry, creamy and fresh, with a long flavorful finish. Excellent!

Quality grape from Galicia that, according to some, is descended from Riesling. However, this has not been completely proven. The albariño is certainly the most important grape of the Rías Baixas DO and has, rightly, experienced a spectacular boom. It is one of the most expensive white wines in Spain. At best, wines from Albariño have beautiful, peachy fruit on the palate. Rich, but not sweet. Most are ready to drink within a year and a half after harvest. If the albariño is given the chance (by undergoing complete malolactic fermentation), it can produce a full, steely, dry wine that drinks particularly elegantly. The grape is grown on man-sized vines. The ventilation from the Atlantic Ocean protects the grape against diseases and frost. A successful quality grape, especially planted in Galicia, especially in Rías Baixas. It is also the famous grape for the Portuguese vinhos verdes called alvarinho. Rabigato is an indigenous Portuguese white grape variety that is mainly found in the Douro. The grape has a thin skin, with the berry having a mixed color from green-yellow to reddish. Due to the high acidity, the grape is almost never used for mono varieties. It is also a recommended grape variety in the Douro for port and dry white wine. The verdejo stem is a plant that easily adapts to infertile and stony soil and tolerates drought well. It produces bunches of small to medium sized grapes, compact and with a very short stem. The grapes are spherical, small to medium in size with medium thick skin, green-yellow in color and with large seeds. The grape is usually harvested at night in the month of September due to the high daytime temperatures, which can reach maximums of 30 degrees Celsius. This prevents the juice from darkening due to oxidation caused by heat.

Viognier, an extremely vulnerable white grape of very high quality that forms the basis of Château Grillet and Condrieu. This grape is also allowed up to 20% in the red Côte Rôtie. Viognier produces a delicate, softly scented white wine. More and more quality-conscious wine growers are planting Viognier and as a result their white wines usually increase enormously in quality.
