Diemersdal Gruner Veltliner from Cape Town, South Africa. It has a bright lemon-lime colour and seductive aromas of kiwi, stone fruit and lime, complemented by notes of sweet melon, ripe pear and a hint of white pepper. This medium-bodied wine has a concentrated flavour and a long, persistent finish with a subtle minerality. With spicy Asian dishes, fresh seafood, asparagus, grilled chicken breast and Wiener Schnitzel. Grüner Veltliner is the grape of Austria and is also called weiβgipfel there. Grüner veltliner is most widely planted in the area around Wachau, Krems, Langelois, Falkenstein and Retz. It is a grape that produces slightly sparkling, pleasant, dry, fresh, fruity and easy-drinking wines, but never top quality wines. Austria has 3 other dark-skinned veltliners: roter, brauner and frühroter. The first 2 are only planted in small numbers; Frühroter (the skin is more red than black) is planted somewhat more, usually in the Weinvertel. The acidity is lower than that of Grüner Veltliner.
