Jerome Quiot Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Chateau Neuf Du Pape AOC. Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Shiraz from the Rhone, France. In the nose, creamy, dark fruit and crabapple aromas and sometimes aromas of evolution (ripening), rhubarb or savory. The Domaine du Vieux Lazaret’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape generally goes well with lamb, pork or poultry dishes, such as leg of lamb with herb stuffing, pork cheek with beer or chicken waterzip with white hoopoe and pink pepper.

Cinsault/Cinsaut is a good quality grape variety that feels very much at home in the warmer wine growing areas and is mainly planted in the western part of southern France.

The Grenache grape grows in warm and dry areas, think of the South of France, Spain, South America and also California and Australia. This grape is also the most cultivated type of grape in the world for producing red . As already mentioned, the grape is called ‘Garnacha’ in Spanish. But you may also know it as ‘Cannonau’, which is what it is called in Sardinia. This grape is a real holidaymaker, and needs sun and hot rocks to fully bake and ripen.

Mourvèdre: an aromatic grape, dark in color and rich in tannin, giving wines with sufficient power and length. Originally Spanish (also called mataro) but planted more in southern France, especially in Provence and Rhone. Also in California and Australia. Mourvèdre is mainly used to give red wines more power, character and substance. It gives them more depth and makes them slightly more classic in style.

Syrah, a strong blue grape of very high quality. This grape is usually not easy for wine growers, but it is the seasoning for many Côtes du Rhône Villages. Delivers incredibly powerful and complex wines under optimal conditions. Have a high tannin content, without being stiff. The Syrah grape quickly suffers from poor fruit set in cool weather during flowering (coulure) but is not very susceptible to grape diseases such as Oidium.
