Petrelli Primitivo Salento from Puglia, Italy. Intense full-bodied red wine. Bouquet fruity and delicate with notes of cherries and plums. On the palate, harmonious, full and versatile. Delicious with red meat, BBQ and leg of lamb.

Azienda Vitivinicola Petrelli is a farm near Carmiano, in the province of Lecce, Puglia. In the south, “the heel”, of Italy. The winery has ancient origins. The Fondo della Chiusa estate, is a country house and summer residence, built in 1850 and then bought in 1920 by the Petrelli family.
The stable of the old estate is now used as a tasting room, where tourists from all over the world indulge their taste buds with the various labels from the cellar. Paolo Petrelli, founded the winery in 1970 and his son Giovanni, took over the reins of the company in 2000.
Currently, Giovanni is accompanied by his daughter Chiara, a young oenologist who, without forgetting traditions, brings new ideas and a modern touch to the company. This marks the beginning of the third generation of Petrelli winemakers.
Petrelli produces not only the classic grape varieties of Puglia such as Negroamaro, Primitivo and Fiano, but also well-known varieties. He divided the wines into three sections. De Classici, de Vini della Chiusa en de vini della tradizione. We import the latter section to introduce the Netherlands to the warmth and delicate flavour and atmosphere of Puglia.
Primitivo is a fashionable grape from the Puglia wine region (Italy). DNA research shows that primitivo is the same grape as the Californian zinfandel, but that says nothing about how the grape came to Italy. The grape appears to have been introduced first to California and then to Italy. Primitivo led a hidden existence in Puglia for many years, where he gave color and strength to blends and had a few DOCs of his own; outside Italy the primitivo was rare. The popularity of zinfandel has changed that and now primitivo is popping up everywhere, including in Australia.
