Racine Rosé Gamay VDP from Comte Tolosan, France. Light pink color. Fruity nose of raspberries and crushed strawberries. On the palate round and soft, nice balance.

Gamay is actually a fairly mediocre, but very productive grape variety, but it scores on the granite soil of Beaujolais and produces beautiful wines there. Striking characteristics of the wines from this grape are a fruity taste, a strong smell, little acid, and a high alcohol content. Also successfully grown in Switzerland. In California the grape is called napa gamay. Gamay beaujolais: despite the name, this is not a gamay, but a variety of pinot noir in California.
