Saporito Merlot & Raboso (sc), Merlot and Rabosso from Venice, Italy. Attractive aromas of blueberries, cherries and blackberries. Fruity and generous in flavor followed by a soft finish.

Merlot is one of the oldest Vitis vinifera varieties that ripens earlier than Carbernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Merlot is important in Bordeaux, especially in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. Merlot plantings have increased significantly in recent years. The grape is very popular worldwide and people are increasingly realizing that Merlot must be planted in a fairly cool vineyard. This grape produces dark, cool, soft, spicy and fruity wines.

Raboso is a red grape variety from which rosé prosecco is made. This is where the grape comes into its own because the high acidity is too high to make beautiful still wines. In a Prosecco, that acidity is a pleasant property for the desired freshness in this popular sparkling wine. The Raboso grape is rich in tannins, which makes the taste of the rosé variant of Prosecco really different from that of the white variants. An additional advantage is the beautiful aromas of the grape that are clearly evident in the rosé Prosecco. The grape is at home in Northeast Italy, but unfortunately it is not planted much anymore and that is understandable because of its limited applicability.
