Torres Perpetual D.O. Priorat from Priorat, Spanje. This wine has a dark and intense ruby red color. Lush aromas of cherries and blackberries are accompanied by a mix of spices and a typical mineral undertone. The taste is mouth-filling with an admirable balance between the fruity density and the spicy notes, resulting from the aging in new oak. Cedar and toast accompany the complex long finish with notes of chocolate and tobacco. With red meat and game dishes. Carignan: a blue grape that is widely planted in the South of France, North Africa and California. The grape produces fairly powerful wines that are fruity in their early years. Nowhere does this grape produce more beautiful wine than in the Roussillon. Carignan comes from Spain and is called cariñena there after the city of the same name where the grape originally comes from. The wines of the carignan are generally dark in colour and coarse in character. They contain relatively much tannin and a high acidity. Thanks to modern methods of vinification such as carbonic maceration the wines become fuller, softer and fruitier. The Grenache grape grows in warm and dry areas, such as the South of France, Spain, South America and also California and Australia. This grape is also the most cultivated type of grape in the world for producing red . As already mentioned, the grape is called ‘Garnacha’ in Spanish. But you may also know it as ‘Cannonau’, which is what it is called in Sardinia. This grape is a real holidaymaker, and needs sun and hot stones to fully bake and ripen. The Grenache contains little tannin and is sensitive to oxidation, so it is better to drink it immediately instead of storing it. The grape has a thin skin and is therefore lighter in color compared to other red wine types. The more grapes per bunch, the lighter the color. The high sugar content is typical of this wine and also makes it stronger in alcohol content, but also sweet and firmer. Grenache wines can be recognized by a taste of white pepper, herbs and fruit. In terms of scent, you can smell almost the same ingredients: blackberries, pepper, cherries, berries and a slightly spicy scent.
