Prosecco from Vini del Rizzo in Friuli, Italy. A crisp, dry Prosecco with a fine mousse and vibrant aromas of pear, apple, and white flowers. Elegant and refreshing—perfect as an aperitif or with light dishes. Prosecco is said to originate in Friuli (Ponte de Piave). The main grape is Glera (formerly known as Prosecco)—this grape imparts the characteristic fresh, fruity, and floral aromas. Additional grapes: Sometimes up to 15% other local white grapes such as Verdiso, Perera, or Bianchetta, depending on DOC/DOCG regulations. “Frizzante” refers to the light fizz, not to a specific grape—usually 100% Glera, as with sparkling Prosecco—but can be made from a variety of white grapes, such as Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, or regional grapes.
Glera is the new official name for prosecco. The name change of this white grape has a long history, but the main aim is to prevent misuse and confusion. The name ‘prosecco’ may only be used within appellations in Veneto and Friuli, and no longer exists as a grape.
