Apátsági Pincészet Tricollis Cuvee White. This is a rich white wine with fruity aromas and flavors framed by a full-bodied structure. You’ll discover flavors of apple, pear and citrus in it. The wine is made from 40% Welshriesling, 35% Rheinriesling and 15% Gewürztraminer and 10% Pinot Blanc. a grape of reasonable to good quality. Definitely not related to the German Rhine or true Riesling. It is perhaps explainable why the name was chosen. ‘Welsch’ means ‘foreign’ in German dialects, and because the grape variety is called Welschriesling in Austria, one can assume that the grape originated here. (This grape is not planted in Germany) The name may be derived from Wallachia in Romania: the Slavic name for Wallachia is Vlaska. The Italians prefer the name Riesling Italico and use the name Riesling Renano for the real Rhine Riesling. Welschriesling produces good wines, especially in warm regions, with a lot of freshness and a fairly spicy and aromatic character, but as a wine it does not have the refinement of a real top-class Riesling. Welschriesling needs more heat than Riesling. It is a reliable producer that can give quite high yields and, with a few exceptions, produces wines that are intended to be drunk soon after the harvest. They are made in both dry and slightly sweet styles. Gewürztraminer is a high-quality white grape variety with a very aromatic character that gives the wine a sultry, spicy smell and taste. When fully ripe the grapes turn light pink. The yield varies from year to year, partly because the grape is very sensitive to cold and wet weather. The name probably comes from Northern Italy; the grape grew there around the town of Tramin (Trento-Alto Adige). Gewürztraminer owes its fame mainly to the wines that are made from it in Alsace. The grape is called traminer aromatico in Italy, traminer in Germany and mala dinka in Bulgaria. Pinot blanc is often associated with the Alsace or Alsace, but this grape originally comes from Burgundy. It is therefore also permitted, but not often practiced, to grow this grape in Grand Cru Vineyards. Outside France, Pinot Blanc is widely grown in Northeast Italy, under the name Pinot Bianco. In Austria and Germany the grape is known as ‘Weissburgunder’, or white Burgundian. Outside Europe, the Pinot Blanc grape is grown new world countries United States, Canada, Argentina and Uruguay. In every area where Pinot Blanc is grown, the grape has a different taste and appearance. Yet this grape is always perfect for use in a blend for sparkling wine. For example, the grape is allowed in champagne blends. Pinot Blanc is also often mixed with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.
