Blaufränkisch: a high quality blue grape. It is mainly planted in Austria and southern Germany where the grape is called Lemberger or Limberger. The vine requires warmth and does well at Lake Neusiedlersee and in southern Burgerland, Austria. In Hungary the grape is called Kékfrankos, in Bulgaria Gamé, in Slovakia and Croatia Frankovka and in Northeast Italy Franconia. Characteristic of the Blaufränkisch wines are their deep purple-red color, the reasonable amount of tannins and acids and the intense ripe fruit.
