Baldovar Cerro Negro

Baldovar Cerro Negro, Mencia from Valencia, Spain. In the glass, it is a red wine with a violet rim and an intense ruby layer. The nose evokes aromas of lavender and geranium flowers, strawberry and cherry jam, toasted wood and a soft earthiness that harmonises the whole. Its intensity and aromatic depth stand out and develop very well with aeration. The palate is soft and bold, with a very fresh midpalate where acids and fruit mark the arrival to a structured and salty finish, the tannins are firm without being aggressive. The palate is very smooth and fresh and has a chalky note in the finish.It goes very well with game stews, gazpachos manchegos, rice dishes with mushrooms and fine meats.

Mencía is a grape with a floral, spicy and fruity bouquet that has similarities with Cabernet Franc or may even be the same variety. Especially in the northern wine region of El Bierzo, this grape has a future in wines with a beautiful structure.
