Phebus Malbec Syrah – Patagonia from Patagonia, Argentina. An extroverted wine with invigorating aromas of fruit and spice that come on strong. Its deep blackcurrant flavor is followed by a soft, round and meaty finish. Patagonia is a very rugged wine region with rocky terrain and a very erratic climate. The precipitation and temperature differences produce a powerful grape that is characteristic of the region. This Merlot was aged for twelve months in new French barrels. 80% Malbec and 20% Syrah aged for 12 months in oak barrels.

Malbec is mainly grown in Bordeaux and the south-west of France. Characteristic of the wines from this grape is the intense and earthy fruit in the scent, combined with a soft, also earthy and spicy taste. The malbec shows a strong tendency to coulure, which results in a small harvest. Also called cot. In the Cahors wine region and Saint Emilion Pressac becomes the grape auxerrois named The birthplace of Malbec, like many other grapes, is in France. Here the grape is also called cot. What many people do not know is that the Malbec grape plays a (small) role in the world-famous Bordeaux blend. The Malbec grape variety was popular in the Bordeaux region at the end of the 19th century. During this period, the grape was used a lot, almost as standard, in the best Bordeaux wines. However, the Malbec is a sensitive grape that likes a dry and warm climate. It does not do well with mold and cold and it needs a long season to ripen. That is why you see it less and less in the Bordeaux blend, although it may still be used. The world-famous red Bordeaux blend is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc with smaller portions of Malbec and Petit Verdot. Because the grape is rich in tannins with a low acidity, it contributes to the production of robust wines. Malbec is therefore less common in Bordeaux, but is still very popular in the Cahors region. Here they also call the grape Auxerrois or Cot. There it produces full, tannin-rich wines.

Syrah, a strong blue grape of very high quality. This grape is usually not easy for wine growers, but it is the seasoning for many Côtes du Rhône Villages. Delivers incredibly powerful and complex wines under optimal conditions. Have a high tannin content, without being stiff. The Syrah grape quickly suffers from poor fruit set in cool weather during flowering (coulure) but is not very susceptible to grape diseases such as Oidium.
