Uggiano Petraia Merlot – Supertoscaner

Uggiano Petraia Merlot – Super Tuscan from Tuscany Italy. Petraia is a supertoscaner with Merlot 85% and the Cabernet Sauvignon 15%. Uggiano is located in San Vincenzo in Tuscany. The wine is aged for 6 months in French oak and then moved to large French barrels for an additional 12 months.
Complex bouquet, elegant and harmonious, with notes of red fruit accompanied by sweet and spicy scents. Full on the palate, rounded out with a soft tannic finish.

Merlot is one of the oldest Vitis vinifera varieties that ripens earlier than Carbernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Merlot is important in Bordeaux, especially in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. Merlot plantings have increased significantly in recent years. The grape is very popular worldwide and people are increasingly realizing that Merlot must be planted in a fairly cool vineyard.
